Rio Salado College has been offering in-person adult education classes since 1978 and is the largest provider in Arizona. Named a Top Five Best Online School in Arizona by Accredited Online School, we have been a leader in educating students for nearly 40 years.

At Rio Salado, you will get a quality education at a price you can afford. We are a fraction of the cost of a four-year university. We offer smaller classes, which means you’ll get more support along the way. You’ll also have the flexibility to take classes when and where you want—day, night, weekday or weekend.

Educational Assistance

In-Person GED® Test Preparation Classes

Offers classes to help students prepare for the GED® test (High School Equivalency). In partnership with the Arizona Department of Education, Adult Education Division.

English Classes

Offers English classes for students who want to improve their English language skills. In partnership with the Arizona Department of Education, Adult Education Division.

Classes are offered in-person at six different locations throughout Maricopa County:

Online GED® Test Preparation Classes

Rio Salado’s Online GED® test preparations classes are designed for students who are pursuing a high school equivalency diploma but wish to receive instruction through an online format.

The online GED® are open to all students regardless of residency status.

Adults Achieving a College Education (Adult ACE)

  • A scholarship-based college-to-career preparation program for students enrolled in Rio Salado’s GED® test prep and higher level English Language courses.

  • Helps students bring their academic skills in reading, English, and math up to college levels.

  • Personalized academic advisement and support.

  • Career and personal counseling.

  • Assistance with financial aid, registration, and other college services.

  • Students who complete Adult ACE with a GPA of 3.25, qualify for the Distinguished Transitions scholarship.

Distinguished Transitions

The program serves the following populations:

  • Students who completed Adult ACE with a minimum 3.25 GPA and have obtained their GED test credentials.

  • Students in Rio Salado’s online GED test prep classes and ELAA students who have completed high school in their country of origin or have obtained their GED test credentials.

  • Students in Rio Salado’s online GED test prep classes who have obtained their GED test credentials and meet the program requirements.

Employment/Job Training Services

  • Career Counselors available at their (6) locations and at other Maricopa County Community Colleges. Here is a link to their Counseling page, which can assist students find a career path and find a job. You do not have to be an enrolled student to access the services of the counseling department.

    • Services available for finding a career path: self-assessment, career research, educational planning, decision making and goal setting, career counseling

    • Services available for finding a job: resume writing, interviewing, networking, and finding job leads.

  • Rio Salado partners closely with Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC). CPLC has the City of Phoenix youth grant to work with 16-24 year old students. The workforce development services of CPLC are co-located at Rio Salado’s Downtown location. If the students qualify, they can co-enroll them for services with CPLC. CPLC can support in paying the registration fees for GED® test prep classes and in paying for the GED® test.
