Opportunities for Youth provides youth, partners, and the community with different resources to inform viewers and listeners about various topics and bring awareness to these certain issues.


Podcast Series

Listen to OFY’s Transition Specialist Intern, Melody Olotu, and Community Engagement Specialist, Marian Lopez Romo, on a short podcast series that contains episodes where they are joined by guest speakers. Each podcast episode consists of different conversations. The current topics for this series are self-care, and refugee youth program with more topics to come.

Self-Care

Refugee Youth and Issues Surrounding Mental Health

On this episode, Melody and Marian discuss self-care and what it means to them as students. They also discuss the different ways people self-care around the world and how they themselves have developed a self-care routine.

Alice Cooper's Solid Rock Teen Centers

On the second episode of our podcast, Melody Olotu and Marian Lopez Romo are joined by Aubrey Held, Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC), and Aleksandra Tanasic, a youth refugee, to discuss topics surrounding issues faced by the Refugee Youth community. They also discuss resources that can be found through CPLC Workforce Solutions.

Mental Health

In this third episode, Melody Olotu and Marian Lopez Romo are joined by Randy Spencer, from Alice Cooper's Solid Rock, and Olivia Helton, a youth participant at Alice Cooper's Solid Rock Teen Centers. They talk about the history of Alice Cooper's Solid Rock Teen Centers and what they do. They also touch base on the opportunities and resources they have and provide for the youth they serve. Olivia also shares her experience with them and how Alice Cooper's Solid Rock has played an important role in her life.

In this fourth episode of the podcast series, William O'Neill, Youth Leadership Program Intern, is joined by Meggie Tran, from Mindful Meggie. They talk about mental health, the challenges and stigmas around it, and share resources that are useful to viewers/listeners. Meggie also shares her personal experiences and the story behind Mindful Meggie and what it is all about.

Violence Awareness
